Props to Mike Artillery (Auteri) for blasting yet another great improvement into our theme.

The App Banners plugin is now accessible to site Admins from Site Settings > App Banners.

Through this plugin, you can easily enable visitors to your mobile web site to see a banner promoting download of your Android app from Google Play, or your iPhone app from the iTunes App store, depending on their device type.

It’s easy.  Here are the steps.  I’m using NewsOne as an example.

1)  Gather your app IDs

Gather them from Google Play and the iTunes App Store.   You get this ID by going to the webpage for each app and looking for the continuous string of characters.  TIP:  for iTunes, if you use the iTunes client application, use the “Copy Link” option in the app to get a web link including the app ID.  In the images below, I have highlighted the app ID.

2).  Plug them into Settings > App Banners.

Just plug them into the slots for Apple App ID and Android App ID (see screenshot below).

3)  Set the other variables, such as App Author, Price, Title, Icon, and Text on Button.

These are used only by the Android banner.   Please note:  for the icon, you’ll want to have a sized square app icon hosted on a remote URL.  In this case, I just uploaded the same image used on Google Play, up to the Media Library of NewsOne.

4) You’re all done!

Visitors to your site via Android and iPhone devices will now see these banners, and your app installs should increase.

Please note:  if you previously used the iOS banner option in Settings > Site Features, you should disable that when you set up the App Banners plugin.
